Immense collection (over 150,000) of vinyl 45s from the 50s and 60s, with another 50,000 from other eras. He hosts an online radio show titled "Vinyl Treasures" which he does on a volunteer basis for people who love the music.

:

A wide range of rare and mint vinyl 45s from the doo-wop era, early 60s and more.

:

150,000-200,000 approximately.

:

His house!

:

John buys and sells and is an active participant in 45s trade shows.
He has a loyal following of fans (almost 5,000 Facebook fans alone!) and his collection of music is as vast knowledge of the subject. His enthusiasm for it is infectious and he makes people happy by playing songs that remind them of days gone by.

Mainly records but all kinds of record players and sound equipment

:

Many people brag of a record collection but none have one as extensive as Darren's. His collection spans from extremely rare and early jazz releases to world music to funk, disco, hip hop and more...and he loves it all.

:

I have no idea. Tens of thousands.

:

In an organized room in part of his finished basement. Other things are around the house.

:

Luckily his wife supports it!
He also buys collections off of other people, which many times is helpful to widows who are unsure what to do with their dearly departed's records (and he gives them a fair price). He also makes money to help support his own family by selling records and equipment.

Mostly vinyl. Lots and lots of vinyl.

:

It's one of the most extensive collections of New Wave and Gothic (and related sub-genres) in the world. If there only 5 copies of a certain Bananarama shaped picture disc, they
have at least one of them.

If they like the band enough, they strive to collect every pressing of every release, sometimes ending up with over a dozen copies of the same 12" from various countries. At record signings, it's not unusual for them to bring items even the artist had never seen before.

No vacation is complete without trips to record stores and many of their items were purchased in London or Berlin. They're known in pretty much every record store left in Manhattan.

:

40,000+ (not counting CDs and video collections)

:

How? Miraculously.

It consumes a large portion of their 2-bedroom lower east side apartment. Floor to ceiling shelves full in every room.

The photo attached may be about 1/4 of the whole.

:

Shock and awe. It never escapes comment from first-time house guests. Even people who know they're collectors are amazed to see just how massive their collection is.

Nominating Ourselves

:

We collect Beatles albums, 45s, reel to reel tapes, eight track tapes, posters, sheet music, books, magazines, news stories, memorabilia/collectables of all kinds, from the 1960s and 1970s from all around the world.

:

It's a huge and unwheedling collection. Some items are rare first issue, albums, of all labels, from scarcest Vee Jay lable original, not conunterfit, to Capitol Records, others from Odeon, you name it, from around the world...some still have their origninal shrink wrap on, or others are sealed enitrely, or packaged in such a way that they have additonal historic value to a Beatles collector, some items are mis-prints, or labled in error, including bootleg copies of Beatles albums. The collection includes a rare Beatles rug, the Beatles dolls in their original boxes, Avedon posters, magazines from the 60s including Look Magazine, Life Magazine and the Rolling Stone magazine issues that all feature the Beatles and all from the 60s and 70s. The list goes on and on...no kidding, almost impossible to list here...

:

At least several 100 items if not near a 1000 items or more, and more than likely, more.

:

Mostly at home, many framed items on the walls of two rooms and a hallway, with many items boxed and stored in a smoke free environment.

:

All those who visit are absolutly amazed. We have a friends who visit us annually just to see what we've added to the Beatles collection.

:

12 inch LPs (classical, jazz, latin, R&B, Raggae, Rock (all subgenres mainly from 60's, 70's and 80's , lounge, vocalists, World (from around the globe),

12" singles (dance, alternative and others), 10" vinyl (all genres),

7' vinyl (imported, domestic (all genres)

DVDs (music, movies, and documentaries)

CDs (rock, sound tracks, world, classical, jazz,

comic books (60's through current)

:

I am the proud owner of a vast collection from my brother, Frank Mazza who died May 2010. Being a veteran of the music industry (he worked in music distribution for over 30 years), he had access to a lot of music. His broad, eclectic taste in music added to the amazing variety. My goal is to catalogue and appreciate as much of the collection as possible to learn more about what made my brother 'tick' and to understand how it contributed to how he crafted his own music as a singer song / writer in the band, ULAN BATOR (US). The collection is teaching me how to listen with different ears and appreciate all types of music, from world, to rock, to hip hop, to lounge, to heavy metal, to french singers of the 60's. It's all there.

:

This is an estimate. Call me in about 3 years after I finish cataloguing and I'll be able to give you an exact number. :)
Collection totals 59,000 items that include:
1) Vinyl LPs, including EPs: over 26,000
2) 7": imports, sixties, early rock: 2000
3) DVDs: exactly 896 (just finished cataloguing)
4) CDs: about 16,000
5) Comic books( ranging from 60's, 70's 80's, 90's, and today: 14,000

:

Now it's stored between 3 locations: 2 storage units and some are in my house. The picture I chose is just an iota of what exists.

:

Since some are in my house, its a little crowded. But my family can now wander through the world of Frank and taste a glimpse of historical jazz, classical, raggae, rock, folk; read a comic, watch a movie, rip a CD on their ipod that most likely many people have never heard of. I've also shared some with others too. I've donated some to the men and women who serve overseas and also add a new flavor to parties when someone wants a sound that is out of the ordinary. Trust me, it's here.

Lou Cannizzaro

:

friend/colleague

:

Lou collects music, mostly--CD's and a HUGE amount of vintage vinyl. Lou does a radio show at the free form music internet station a group of friends and I run. (Area24radio.com) Thia station has a whole LOT of oddball CD's and vinyl. I think Lou probably has about five times as much.

:

It's incredibly wide-ranging, like Lou's rock and roll tastes. He's also got more interesting and obscure psychedelia than you can imagine. There are bands from Canterbury, England in the 70's that no one knows about except the members of those bands, their mothers, and Lou. This must be the truth.

:

I couldn't even begin to estimate. It's the Atlantic City Convention Hall Organ of lp and cd collections. It is going to wake up and ravage the countryside some dark night.

:

Lou keeps it on the first floor of his house in his man-cave. It's shelved and carefully tended.

:

The other DJ's at Area 24 Radio (area24radio.com) covet Lou's music collection. It inspires us all. We secretly wish we could broadcast from his man-cave instead of the station. We like it when Lou brings in LPs all wrapped up in layers of plastic and lets us touch them. But we're nerds, too. Lou's wife supports him in his obsession. Maria is a patient and kind woman.

Vanilla Ice memorabilia

:

The only thing more absurd than Vanilla Ice, is collecting Vanilla Ice memorabilia. What is special is over 100 vintage magazines with Ice on the cover, a Vanilla Ice sleeping bag, and so much more. It is all inventoried like a museum would do with numbers - VI-0001, etc. It is also just one third of a much larger obsession - http://thehairytrinityofthebigd.blogspot.com/

:

over 300 different things from a billboard to fanny-packs

:

dozens of bankers boxes stashed all over my home, and even the utensil drawer in the dining room my roommate and girlfriend has pointed out

:

My girlfriend thinks I'm crazy and likes to tell people I get a package in the mail a day - which is true. Most other people think I'm crazy too. I might agree - I'm probably crazy for blowing all my money on an absurd obsession.

It's Me

:

Records: 78s, LPs and 45s.

Antique Phonographs (a few)

Vintage Audio Gear

:

The Record Habit has gone from a collection to as business.

What was once a basement room full of Vinyl has grown to three rooms (or at least shelves in those rooms) and a storage unit of Shellac. The entirety of the collection doubles as stock to sell to other collectors throughout the world.

I am always on the hunt to buy whole collections from those who no longer have room in their homes or their lives for them.

:

45,000 to 50,000 pieces.

A majority of that number is shellac 78rpm discs.

There are many pieces of audio gear as well: Tubes, Tube Amps, Victor Talking Machines, Turntables, A Jukebox, speakers etc.

:

There is one full room in the basement. One sizable shelving unit in the family room, and an entire wall in what was once the laundry room, but is now my shipping room.

In addition to those items stored in my home, there is a 10" x 20" storage unit just up the road that is filling up quickly.

:

Despite the size of the collection, my family and I still live a normal life.

Yes there are, at times, records all over the house. But I tend to be organized and I hate clutter. As soon as things pile up too high, I clean up and move the items I have no room or need for. By keeping on top of what is coming and going, our home is clean, safe and livable at all times.

The collection causes no problem for my wife and kids. They all love music as much as I do and being surrounded by all these options is good for all of us.

As stated above I have turned the collection into a business and I now make a living selling antique records all over the world via online resources.

My wife, believe it or not, is very supportive of me.

Bobby Schayer

:

Friend/Touring brother

:

Bobby collects rock and roll memorabillia. From records, CDs, DVDs to canceled rock artist royalty checks, figurines, posters. You name it, if it has anything to do with rock n roll Bobby will buy it.

:

Bobby was in a successful rock band and toured the world. He continues to tour as a drum tech and uses this as an opportunity to accumulate rock memorabillia from around the world. I have been with him and witnessed his purchasing on 5 continents.

:

I could not even guess. I would say upwards of 10,000 pieces including vinyl, CDs, DVDs and books.

:

Some of it is in his apartment in Portland, OR. A lot of it is in multiple storage facilities across the country.

:

Everyone that knows Bobby, and it seems EVERYONE knows Bobby, knows he collects rock memorabillia. People bring him stuff or want to turn him on to record and collector shops around the world. I have spent years touring on the road with Bobby and have witnessed this first hand. His bunk on the tour bus is often jammed with recent acquisitions made on the road. Often it spills out and can be found around the bus. His suitcase is always packed half full to leave room for on the road aquisitions. He is extremely generous and if you express interest in an object he won't think twice about giving it to you or buying you one of your own. People LOVE Bobby Schayer.

Besides memorabillia Bobby will pick up a guitar and play songs from artists that reside in whatever city we are in. Across the globe. He is a musical savant.

It is comprehensive in its coverage, split between classical music, electronica, rock, metal, opera, jazz. It has seperate sections and is well organized. There are soundtracks, world music, and even Garrison Keillor monologues.

Over 6,000.
