It is stored on a bookshelf in my music room of my home.

:

Anyone who ever looks at the books are in awe that one man could possibly have gone to this many concerts and collected all the information surrounding these particular shows.

Anyone that has ever gone to a show with me and looked at the collect loves it because they are able to remember the experience of that show and the time we shared together.

Robert has a storage unit full of Billy Joel memorabilia. His collection is impressive enough that photographs of it are featured in the "My Lives" boxed set. Robert serves as a consultant for Billy Joel releases at Sony BMG.

:

Robert has a number of highly personal items from Joel's childhood. For example, he has a hand-written letter from Joel's grandfather in which his grandfather encourages Joel to keep practicing piano.

:

I can only guess that his collection contains hundreds of items.

:

I believe most of his collection is kept in a storage facility in Westchester County, NY.

:

The photographs of Robert's collection in the "My Lives" boxed set allow fans to peer into Joel's personal life, creating a sense of connection with Joel as a young artist.

Rock & Roll related vinyl, posters, books, video. Objects specific to the 1969 Woodstock Music & Art Fair, its origins and history & it's patron saint; Max Yasgur. Memorabilia related to Felix Pappalardi, Jack Bruce, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Duane Allman, Grace Slick, Cab Calloway, Abbie Hoffman, Jack Kerouac and the beginning of rock & roll music.

:

It includes working blueprints drawn for Woodstock Ventures in the weeks prior to the festival in August of 1969, which were salavaged from trash left at the curb by the Sullivan County sheriff's office, archivally preserved and framed in wood reclaimed from the festival site. These were displayed on loan, in the lobby of the Museum at Bethel Woods during its 40th anniversary season. Also an iconic hand painted sign named "the tabletop" which was famously photographed before the festival, nailed to a fencepost protesting Max's proposed "hippy music fest". An original periodical advertisement for Oldsmobile's Super 88 Rocket car that most likely served as inspiration for what is considered by many to be the first rock & roll record by Jackie Brenston - Rocket 88 - original 78 rpm records of same. A kiss on the cheek by Joni Mitchell.

:

Thousands.

:

It is on display and in storage at my home. Two different appraisals are in print and on DVD.

:

It's my intention to take a traveling museum to outdoor events around the country for a couple years, culminating with the donation of one of a kind, irreplaceable objects to museums in Seattle, WA., Cleveland, OH., and Bethel, NY. on the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock festival in 2019.

I collect what I consider rare or collectible records. I'm also an appraiser of music collections at Forevervinyl.com. I've been used as an expert reference at Oprah.com, Bankrate.com, Yahoo.com, Rolling Stones, and Readers Digest magazine. I collect 1st pressings of collectible records, acetates and studio master recordings. These are items that take me just one or two steps away from the final recording session. Examples would be my recent purchase of Black Sabbaths "Black Sabbath" US album. I've never seen a full Black Sabbath acetate album before (7" acetates are around) and had to have it. I've also come across Paul McCartneys Ram acetate and John Lennons Wedding Album acetate. The sound is amazing. I also collect picture discs and promotional recordings. Garage 45's, and other cool rock, jazz, blues, soul and punk records that are hard to find. In addition, RIAA awards are also things I look for. I just don't collect the average items you find at record stores for $3 to $10 dollars.

:

Most of the items I look for are one of a kind or of very limited amounts. I recently picked up a collection by Michael Jackson, his History Past, Present and Future Book #1 album collection with 12 different formats or they were imports. All of them are number #1 of 200. All are sealed. All were recalled because Michael used the words "Ki*e and Jew" in the words of the song "They don't care about us". That recall cost Sony millions. It compares to the album Yesterday and Today by the Beatles for the Butcher Cover or the Rolling Stones "Street Fightin Man" 45 picture sleeve that was recalled. Because it's numbered and was the first pressing off the line (remember the part about finding the first pressings), it compares to the White Album by the Beatles that were numbered. For the Beatles, copy #1-5 went to the Beatles and Brian Epstein.

:

I stopped counting the albums at one point and stopped at 5000. I don't have a reason to count and lot of what I have are items I had to buy to get the one or two items I did want. Someday I'll have a nice charity donation. Imagine donating the records to charity and getting a $50K write off with an appraiser signing off on the report. The only problem is, other then myself and a guy on the west coast, I don't know any other appraisers that appraises music collections. Guess I'm only getting $1.00 per record per IRS standards without an appraiser. :<.

:

All the items are stored in archivel boxes in a heated area. Far away from the prying hands of my kids.

:

I sometimes invite friends, collectors or news people to come over and enjoy the collection. I don't want to be one of those people that hides his illness under a rock. I let my light shine. I sometimes take the hard to find ones, record them to youtube and hope the copyright holders don't have bug up their ace about letting someone else enjoy what they aren't selling at this time. I'm not a fan of counterfeiters but Youtube is great for sharing the love of record collecting without collectors. I had put a selection of an acetate created by Bob Gaudio of the Four Seasons that was Watertown that Frank Sinatra sung. The two versions are striking and so far 600 collectors have listened to it and most prefer the Gaudio version (myself included). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZH85J7MSw4

:

Everything is stored at my home and insured for a hefty sum.

Records and recordings (78s mostly), jazz age music from the mid 20's and 30's.

:

Honestly, he's a DJ, and plays most of them on "The Big Broadcast" on WFUV, 90.7 FM every Sunday night from 8-12pm. The very fact that he brings his collection of AMAZING, obscure and mostly lost recordings to the world is a minor miracle, in my opinion. (And not to brown nose-but that's one of the things I love about that other radio show, "New Sounds")

:

Tons. (No idea, I think in the thousands. Ask him) He sells and buys on eBay all the time too.

:

??? Good question. No idea.

:

He uses his collection for good and shares it with the world on his radio show. He just passed his 2000th show and has been doing this since the mid-70's. Sheer force of persistence keeps this music alive and thankfully he's lasted into the digital age. I honestly think a huge portion of his collection would be lost (like early films) for sheer lack of accessible and playable copies.

He collects crates and crates and crates and crates of records, particularly house and electronic music, but all kinds.

Kevin is legally blind. The collection is a testament to how he engages with the world aurally, rather than through vision. Despite having barely any visual perception at all, he goes record hunting constantly, builds his collection, and uses them to DJ at parties.

:

Lets put it this way: his room is packed with CDs and records, there are many, many crates in another room, and crates line the hallway.

:

Crates and bookshelves filling up the rooms and hallways of his house.

They hear his collection at parties and hear his mixes online. People love him!

My friend James Hyman collects Pop Culture Magazines, records and CD's.

:

The Pop Culture Magazine collection is unique with many out of print or defunct publications. It is thought to be the largest private collection in the world (currently being verified by the Guinness Book of Records).

:

50,000 pop culture magazines
30,000 CD's
6,000 records

:

In a North London (UK) warehouse on custom built shelving.

:

It amazes and inspires them. James's wife may see it differently e.g. too much time / money spent on it. He has complete archives of certain publications. He has magazines, records and cd's from all over the world.

Johnny collects vinyl 45's from the 1950s through 1989.

:

My God!, he has over 150,000 records. He specializes in vocal group harmony from the 50s and early 60s, but has all genres of music in his collection. He "runs" all the major labels, and many many more that are not well known to most record buyers. One "runs" a label by collecting everything that was ever issued by that label for a given time period.

Johnny then pulls requests and his own favorites for a Saturday evening (8P)internet show on www.topshelfoldies.org plus you can watch him spinning his vinyl live on the station's video chat page.

:

150,000 45's and growing!! plus lots of 78s, lps, and cds.

:

Johnny stores most of them in what he calls his "no humidity basement", but trust me, there are records throughout his house.

:

Johnny is very sharing with his music, committing two hours each Saturday to his TopShelf Oldies show, and always willing to help other collectors and listeners with question about the hobby or specific records.

It's huge and incredibly diverse! My father in law has at least 10,000 albums, is a total Beatles fanatic, and is an amateur archivist. He hoards memorabilia, has incredible stories (including one about the time he met John Lennon), and is an encyclopedia of info about music during the 60s. He's even written a book about

:

It includes at least 10,000 albums and many many pieces of memorabilia. I doubt he's ever counted the other items!

:

Everything is stored in his home in Providence, RI. He has a room specially designed for its acoustics so he can listen to his records. Many of his most special pieces of memorabilia are on display in this room.

:

When they were younger, I think my husband and his brother found it to be a bit odd even a little annoying! Now as adults they understand how incredible it is. Anyone who walks into his house is stunned that he has so many things, and the items on display are so impressive. My father in law is a big part of why the collection is so cool, though. He just gets so excited about sharing what he knows and loves; it's infectious.
