My friend James Hyman collects Pop Culture Magazines, records and CD's.

:

The Pop Culture Magazine collection is unique with many out of print or defunct publications. It is thought to be the largest private collection in the world (currently being verified by the Guinness Book of Records).

:

50,000 pop culture magazines
30,000 CD's
6,000 records

:

In a North London (UK) warehouse on custom built shelving.

:

It amazes and inspires them. James's wife may see it differently e.g. too much time / money spent on it. He has complete archives of certain publications. He has magazines, records and cd's from all over the world.

If you own a record label and James collected your releases...he has the ones your missing from your own collection.

Its time to put the white gloves back on when handling stuff in this priceless treasure trove!

Probably one of the greatest collections I've ever seen. It was like looking at the history of pop culture in its totality in one room. One very very cramped room! And not only has he collected it, but he's imbibed every inch of it, he's a walking lexicon of pop culture.

This can be an AMAZING Pop Culture Database both for students & professionals.
James is so passionate about his collection that I'm sure he will transmit this passion into all the people and future generations.

Before the widespread use of the Internet, James Hyman was my very own 'Google'. I was hosting the dance music show 'Partyzone' on MTV Europe and James was the producer/director. Thanks to his obsessive compulsive magazine and music collection, I had a wealth of information at my fingertips.

Whenever I needed research on a particular act, I would consult James, who would then grab hold of his temples and go 'er...er....Mixmag, issue 24, page 88'. And surely enough, there was the latest interview with all the info I needed. He would then wizz through the storage room and pull out a whole collection of different mags and open them on all on the exact pages that I needed. It was spooky and genius all at once.

James Hyman's collections are sick, fascinating, brilliant and definitely OCD. But what is even more amazing to me, is what's all stored in his head.

Its 1986 "White Lines" a song by Grandmaster Flash is sounding out the duke box and a guy comes in all dressed in lactose "Like this track" he says pointing at the sky as if he can see the music. He walks over the the duke box and scrolls down the tracks, puts a coin in and selects some more equally good shit. It was Windmill Hill tennis camp and it was the first time we were away from our parents. Fire extinguishers, alcohol, and ornopay it was time to make some noise and cause some damage. Those were the circumstances when I met James and we stayed in touch after I helped him in a scrap he had with a mouthy tennis player from Italy.

Fast forward to the 90's and I share a flat with James and another friend called Guy. Naturally James takes the bigger room as he has the most stuff. At least 100 crates in his room, the floor begins to b due buckle due to the sheer weight of it and his door can only open enough for him to squeeze in. It was sick and he had more in storage. "I need help"! James often said

2011 James and I have a industrial warehouse next to each other. Day 1 hundreds of crates arrive and the unpacking and cataloguing begins. This collection represented a lot of time and money and passion. This magazine collector has defiantly got issues
Big Up Goat!

James' collection is second to none. Passionate to the point of OCD. This remarkable collection of popular culutre should be maintained as a historical archive in this digital age.

James's collection of Pop Culture is only rivalled by his knowledge of Pop Culture - his passion has been his career and vice versa. Having had first hand experience of seeing all that he owns and knows I would think he must be up there for Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of Pop in the World. If you think you know someone who can beat him then let's call Don King & bring this S*** to Vegas Baby. I do feel for his wife who loves him even though she doesn't love Pop as much as he does - but seriously chaps, who could? Pound for pound he's better than Sugar Ray Robinson, Tyson et al.

Layees & Gemmen, I give you JAMES HYMAN... THE POPFATHER!

James Hyman is an extraordinarily committed passionate collector - he has built up a wonderfully diverse collection which should be kept together.
