I think you always think that you could have gotten it cheaper but my partner was able to talk them down. This was for a Balsam tree not the more expensive Douglas Fir.
We also learned that the guys at the stand we bought it at got held up at gun point the weekend before at 3am. So maybe in the grand scheme of things we got a really good deal.

I felt like, given the fact we are in Manhattan, it was pretty fair. It came with a stand as well.

I think the price was relatively fair, but I remember a slightly larger tree from the same place being $25 last year, which might have been because it was closer to Christmas. What goes into the price? Labor, transportation, proximity to Christmas, audience, size, quality, and type of tree, vendor.

cut our own tree from the farm. fun hay ride, good apple cider, etc. but you have to spend $ for zip car, unless you have an SUV. Not particularly affordable, but we paid for some fun.

I think we got a good deal. We went to a farm to cut our own which is about $65 for a 5-6foot tree, but they were all out! We went to another farm and they were $80 which was too expensive.

We first went to the stand outside the CVS on 9th St between 5th and 6th in Park Slope. A five foot tree was $80. We drove down 35 blocks to Sunset Park and got a slightly bigger tree for 1/2 the price. They even gave us a bag to take the tree to the street in once the season is over. A christmas miracle! (Or maybe just hyperlocal economics)

We paid $85 for an almost 8' fir tree. I think that is TOO MUCH. The seller came down from $90 without much discussion, she was a very sweet Canadian and wants us back next year. We usually buy our trees in NJ for about $60, but given the tolls now and the hassle of driving in NYC, we felt it was a wash financially and a lot easier walking to the urban forest on the corner. Merry Christmas!

It's a $36 Douglas Fir, which was cheaper than the other soft-needled (but longer lasting) trees, which were more like $46-$52. I buy there every year and they seem to survive my forgetfulness in watering them every day.

For NJ, the price is fair, I could probably get closer to $28 at Home Depot, but I've not had good luck with trees there.

WNYC needs to know that if Manhattanites are paying $120 for trees, I'm going to start a tree delivery service. :)
