David Shannon Florist and Nursery

Yes, although a little more than we would have preferred to pay, we love to support this local business, which mainly serves Greenwood Cemetery. We love Greenwood for the beauty it brings to our neighborhood, and for the many whose loved ones rest there, David Shannon provides an important service. The tree is great, we usually get it from them and it lasts a long time, etc., but supporting local business is most important to us.

Lewin Farms
Baiting Hollow Nursery on Fresh Pond Avenue Wading River, NY
More than 10 Feet (Showoff!)
$30-40
I thought this was a very fair price for a tree! This is the first time we cut our own tree. A hayride takes you out into the field, once you cut down your tree and drag/carry it to the dirt roads in the field your tree is loaded onto the tractor and you're given a tag number for your tree, you then take the hayride back to the main entrance where they bundle your tree and then you just need to tie it onto your car/SUV. Any size tree for $35!!

Whole Foods
250 East 57th Street, NY, NY 10022
8 Feet
$40-50
We have always bought from the local Canadian guy on 1st and E57th Street in the past and usually paid between 80 and $100 for a 6 - 7 foot tree. I Always took pleasure in haggling the price down.
Since WF had trees for $50 and we can see them from our apartment window, it was a no brainer to spend $50 for an 8 foot tree, plus $5 for the guy to carry it across the street to my building lobby and $10 for my building's porter to help me get it in the apartment and in the stand. The entire process took less than 15 minutes and cost me $65. including delivery and tips. I am guessing that the transportation costs including fuel and labor make up the bulk of the cost. Since WF already has its own labor in place, it was simply contracting with a tree vendor and a nice story about replanting and mulch to make a go of it.
