I am not sure if it is fair or not but we had been drinking and were determined to get a tree and decorate it. The tree was 130 and for another 20 he sold us a stand.

The guys said it was $10 per foot, which seemed reasonable, but when we had selected the 5 foot tree, he charged us $60. So even in the context of the shop we were in, it wasn't really a fair price.

Paid $160. Most ever! But beautiful tree ... and the lovely Quebecois fellow carried it for us right into the apartment and into our stand. Could have got a way cheaper one, but don't want to play the Scrooge at Christmas.

We got a Blue Spruce (long needle) tree. It's beautiful and smells amazing. Last year we walked up the block on a corner in NYC and despite good watering, it dried up, needles were coming off and started to even droop. It was depressing. Before that we always chopped it at any tree farm. We think it was worth the drive.

This is a repost to include more detail.

I think it was slightly overpriced, due to the type of tree it was and how that factored into needle retention.

It was definitely an extravagance for us, I think it was a fair price - I see it as stimulating the economy. It's a seasonal gig for these guys, and farming, cutting down, and transporting trees is no small task, not to mention hustling them on the corner.
