Jerry Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor have made distinguished careers out of manipulating images: he's an old-school darkroom guy, while she's embraced the computer. For this challenge, they provided ten images for you to remix into an original composition.
Metamorphosis with a Victorian twist. The cocoon is the camera.

This is an "old school" collage--paper & glue--inspired by the images & artwork of Jerry Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor.
Title: "Watching as the Past is Transformed"

But for the background sky I used only the butterfly wings.
Russ
I decided to create a composition using elements of only one image.
Russ
Created using photoshop with the images of the sky, path, lady, man, butterfly, and bird.

I became inspired by the hand and the more natural elements like the leaves and butterfly. I wanted to portray the feeling of stories actually coming to life.
Samanta
the base picture was a show window at the local Salvation Army. I added a few trinkets from the contest.

I was drawn to the apparent relationship between the man and the woman, so I put them in a photo together. The blackbird is their pet. The background is an amalgamation of the background of the woman's portrait and the sky photo. I found the man's body online.

Photo montages are created by rearranging visual elements on separate layers, either in the darkroom or on a computer. With that process in mind, I tried to create many different layers of depth in my photo remix: the reflection of the room, the frame on the wall, the pictures in the matted frame and the background scenery behind the man and woman.
If you look closely, the eyes of the statue man are actually spots taken from the leaves image.

I photograph a lot of people who have very beautiful eyes. It seemed like a natural extension to combine the beauty of a butterfly with the mystery of the eyes watching from the wings.

My submission uses an element from all 10 photos. I felt that the collection of images were so disjointed that the only tying theme is the madness of reality. Together they work to construct a poetic image depicting the darkness, lights and complexities of life, all while remaining balanced. I work in the abstract because although these are 10 identifiable images, when distorted and mirrored, they develop new images that only the viewer can determine.

Title: Impart-Depart- after an Emily Dickinson poem. This is my third submission because I just couldn't stop playing with these images. I teach digital photography and when my students ask, "What do I do now?", I always tell them to try a different solution - a different stacking order, a different blending mode, and so on...So I followed my own advice and had some fun. Thanks!

I was fascinated by the people in the Victorian photos and wanted to tell a story about them. The story is in your imagination.

Had a great time creating a surreal landscape with a butterfly queen!
