Listener Challenge: Photo Remix

Jerry Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor have made distinguished careers out of manipulating images: he's an old-school darkroom guy, while she's embraced the computer. For this challenge, they provided ten images for you to remix into an original composition.

Nature is a beautiful presence all around us that many of us may not even notice. This is why in this picture I have put many different scenes of nature in one picture so that we can appreciate the beauty of nature altogether.

This is a stone wall with a nice sky with mountains in the back with a mysterious raven spotted sitting on the edge.

The concept of my picture is surreal. I started with the simple concept of a hand releasing butterflies into the beauty of the world. My idea soon changed when I found a picture of a peeling wall. The end concept is that you have been taken from the beauty of nature and placed in the darkness.

The picture depicts a man in a window and a raven sitting on the ledge looking as though he has flown in from the right. Upon finding the picture of the bird I immediately thought of Edgar Allen Poe and a reincarnation as a raven . What would the irony be if Edgar Allen Poe was reincarnated as the raven from his story ? So I put “Edgar” in a window of an old building and made him a ghostly reflection of himself as a past form of his life. Then in present day I put a raven on the window ledge. The feathers represent the flippancy of life and how easily it can float away .

I picked the picture of the path because It reminded me of the passage of time. I placed my own picture on top of it to give it a little bit of a uneasy feeling. I believed the purple rose with spider webs on it is a good symbol for the passage of life. The photo is ment to portray life passing down a path.

This is my "Walking Love Story". As you can see there are three couples along the path way... But really it is all the same couple. I placed them along the pathway spacing them amongst the path to show that they are similar yet different. The couple keeps walking the path and as the go they age. To me it's a "Walking Love Story" :) The couple had reached an age so old they could no longer walk anymore, that is why they are sitting down and taking a nap.
