The poet Anne Sexton took her own life in 1974, but had she lived, this year would have marked her 83rd birthday. Reason enough, thought the actor Paul Hecht, to organize an elegant tribute to her at the Cornelia Street Café on Nov. 14.

Half-Palestinian, half-Israeli actor and leading non-violence activist Juliano Mer-Khamis was shot dead on Monday in the West Bank. Mer-Khanis was a leading figure in the arts and founded The Freedom Threatre in Jenin, a Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank. The theater provides opportunities for Palestinian children to get involved in the arts.

Actress Kathleen Chalfant has starred on Broadway, in plays including Wit and Angels in America. She was in a different role recently at the Rubin Museum of Art, discussing the theories of psychoanalyst Carl Jung as part of the Museum's Red Book Dialogues.
