This New Sounds program presents music from the Near East, including works from Lebanon, Syria, Iran, and Israel. Bassist Jim Guttmann, (anchor man in the Klezmer Conservatory Band,) leads his own ensemble which branches out intriguingly into jazz, funk, and world music. From Guttmann’s brand new recording “Bessarabian Breakdown,” we’ll hear a traditional Sephardic melody “Cuando el Rey Nimrod.”
