Documenting and commemorating WNYC's history at the Municipal Building and relocation to Hudson Square
Transition proposes to document and commemorate the station's history at the Municipal Building, and to explore and imagine its future at Varick Street. The project will draw on archival recordings and existing oral histories; interviews with former and current staff members; personal soundscapes recorded by staff members, and ambient recordings of both buildings, and their immediate surroundings, to create a rich aural tapestry that will be part of an installation in the new performance space, and may also make its way into other channels as we chart our new course.
Ways You Can Contribute
Transition will be created by everyone, and there will be a variety of ways to contribute—tell us a story; remember a sound; imagine a place. If you have something you would like to share with us, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
As we continue to gather and assemble materials for Transition, we will share select stories, sounds, and images on our Transition Blog. Please check the blog from time to time for updates and surprises. Please check the blog from time to time for updates and surprises.
