This Week in Politics: Democratic Primaries in Red New York

WNYC News | Jun 23, 2018

Several Republican members of Congress in New York have been flagged as vulnerable in the congressional midterm election. And there are competitive Democratic primaries going on in those districts. WNYC statehouse reporter, Fred Mogul and WNYC Washington Correspondent, John O'Connor join us for a last-minute roundup.

The basics:

There are 27 congressional districts in New York. Republicans currently hold nine of those seats. Speaking with David Furst, John O'Connor says if this is going to be a "wave" election, New York represents an essential testing ground. He says, "If Democrats can’t win some of these New York districts they’re likely not going to win the House. It'll be a sign that the national climate is not in their favor."
