All Of It with Alison Stewart | Mar 26, 2021

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Michèle Ohayon joins us to discuss her new documentary, "Strip Down, Rise Up," available on Netflix.  "Strip Down, Rise Up" is a cinema verité film about women from different walks of life who reclaim their sensuality and sense of self through dance.

When the pandemic hit last year, one industry that was especially devastated was live entertainment, including people who make their living in the strip club industry. For a recent episode on Death, Sex, and Money, Anna Sale investigated the Texas strip club scene at The Red Parrot in El Paso. She spoke with dance Jessica Barrerra about her livelihood, and how drastically the pandemic has affected her line of work. This is an excerpt from the full episode, "Masks On, Tops Off: Inside a Texas Strip Club."

A graphic novel/guide book for young adults explores the big questions about adolescence, sex, and romance. Authors Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan join us to discuss their book, Let’s Talk About It: The Teen’s Guide to Sex, Relationships, and Being a Human, and take calls from listeners.

A new book explores the influence of four women on the television industry during the medium’s early days. Author Jennifer Keishin Armstrong joins us to discuss her book titled, When Women Invented Television: The Untold Story of the Female Powerhouses Who Pioneered The Way We Watch Today, which highlights the work of Gertrude Berg, Irna Phillips, Betty White, and Hazel Scott.

Comedian and writer Chris Gethard joins us to discuss his new podcast project, New Jersey Is The World. Today is also “Pick Up The Phone And Call” day -- a new holiday dedicated to calling someone in your life. Gethard, who also hosts the podcast, Beautiful Anonymous, joins us to celebrate with a listener singalong.

This episode is guest-hosted by Anna Sale.
