'Repair Revolution,' Wisdom and Laughs from Michelle Buteau, 'Infinite Race,' Domestic Violence in a Pandemic
Authors John Wackman and Elizabeth Knight join us to discuss their book, Repair Revolution: How Fixers Are Transforming Our Throwaway Culture. The book explores the philosophy and wisdom of repairing, as well as the Right to Repair movement.
Comedian and actress Michelle Buteau is known for her roles in “Russian Doll,” "Always Be My Maybe," and her Netflix special, "Welcome to Buteaupia." In her book of essays, Survival of the Thickest , she brings her humor and insight to a wide range of topics, including dating, her early stand-up career, IVF, surrogacy, and chosen family.
A new 30 for 30 documentary explores what’s happened since the Tarahumara, an indigenous community in Mexico, became well-known for their legendary running ability and their unique running style -- running barefoot. Director Bernardo Ruiz joins us to discuss the film, titled “The Infinite Race." The film looks at what the community has experienced since they helped inspire the current ultrarunning craze, including the rise in organized crime in Mexico and its effect on the community.

Margarita Guzmán, executive director of the Violence Intervention Program, joins us to discuss the Latina-led organization’s 36-year history providing services to address domestic abuse and family violence in the New York area. VIP currently provides services to over 10,000 New York State residents. Guzmán joins us to discuss what services VIP offers, signs for friends and family members to pay attention to, and the impact of COVID-19 on domestic violence in the city, specifically on immigrant communities.
