Dying Words

On the Media | Jun 2, 2016

Jeff Schmalz was diagnosed with AIDS 25 years ago after collapsing at his desk at the New York Times. The disease set him on a new course, one that eventually changed the way "the paper of record," and many others around the country, wrote about AIDS and about the lives of gay men and women. In honor of LGBT Pride Month, we revisit an edited version of "Dying Words: the AIDS reporting of Jeffrey Schmalz", produced by Kerry Donahue and Sam Freedman and edited and mixed by Ben Shapiro.
