(New York, NY – May 9, 2012) – This summer, prepare for a definitive Brooklyn experience in KINGS COUNTY, a series of live events that celebrates, embodies and deconstructs the new urban America.

Created by WNYC’s KURT ANDERSEN (Studio 360 with Kurt Andersen) and STEVE BODOW, co-executive producer of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, along with writing led by PAUL SIMMS (The New Yorker, Flight of the Conchords, NewsRadio), Andersen will host incisive interviews, standup comedy and music performances with folks who emanate the spirit, if not the zip code, of the taste-making, hip-shaking borough.

Kings County is a series of radio variety hours presented live at Galapagos Art Space on Sunday, June 10 and Friday, June 29, and The Bell House on Sunday, June 24.  All shows begin at 7pm and will be recorded for future broadcast on WNYC.

“What we’re trying to capture is not just literally Brooklyn, but the national sensibility – the new, youthful, creative, hand-made, anything’s-possible attitude of which Brooklyn is an epicenter,” said Andersen.

What’s in Kings County?  The next band to put on your iPod.  The next app to put on your iPhone.  A visit to Kings County will take you to the hottest young comics and offer a first listen of emerging musicians, along with audio gags waiting to go viral and a look into the current golden age of DIY city living.  Artisanal mayonnaise?  Mayors of the block?  Pet pigs?  Yeah, we’ve got that, too.

Before the night is through, Andersen will lead “Brooklynesque,” a monologue about life in New York and creative America circa 2012, written and performed by him and that week’s cast.  Guests include comedians WYATT CENAC (The Daily Show), KURT BRAUNOHLER (IFC’s Bunk) and JESSI KLEIN, as well as musicians SEAN LENNON and CHARLOTTE KEMP MUHL as The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, playwright (Jeffrey) screenwriter (Addams Family Values), and humorist (The New Yorker) PAUL RUDNICK – who will anchor Kings County’s “Gay Stuff” segment – plus many more guests to be announced.
