Volunteer Canvassers Get Celebrity Sendoff from Hamilton Creator Lin Manuel Miranda
Broadway sensation Lin-Manuel Miranda is getting behind efforts to to flip the House blue.
Droves of progressive New York City residents headed to swing districts in the area over the weekend to canvass for Democrats and Miranda stopped by to thank a bus-load of volunteers and to encourage others to get involved.
"It's fun, it's hella fun on that bus," Miranda told WNYC after offering selfies to all of the more than 50 volunteers on board. "And for anyone who thinks volunteering is some sort of burden or some chore, you can find incredible solidarity and common cause,"
There you have it folks: @Lin_Manuel makes the days of canvassers headed to door knock for @MikieSherrill in NJs 11th district. One woman told me after “I was shaking, I literally couldn’t even say words I was screaming and crying.” @WNYC pic.twitter.com/kPCG7qn0b8

Ecstatic Miranda fans on board were jittery after the brush with celebrity, including Karen Nachbar, a 45-year-old Manhattan lawyer.
"I was shaking I literally could even say words before he got here I was like screaming and crying," she said after her getting her selfie with the star. "It's a great start to the day. We're gonna go knock on doors and channel his energy."
The bus was headed to New Jersey's 11th district, where Mikie Sherill is running for an open congressional seat in a heated race against Republican Jay Webber.
Organizers with the group Swing Left say they sent out two-dozen buses full of volunteers in New York and New Jersey to help get out the vote for Democrats in contentious races.
