#3379: Tuff Strum
Listen to “Cello Multitracks” on this New Sounds program. It’s Gabriel Prokofiev's four-part suite scored for nine cellos, as realized by the technologically skilled cellist Peter Gregson, (yep, on all nine parts.) The work is sometimes jarring, sometimes it grooves, then it will even scuttle like dust bunnies, whether plucked or scraped.
Also, hear Brooklyn Rider's "Seven Steps," collaboratively composed, along with music from the World Kora Trio, featuring cellist Eric Longsworth, kora player Chérif Soumano and singer-percussionist Jean Luc Di Fraya in a world music summit meeting of sorts. Plus, listen to a record of dueling cellos by Insa Donja Kai, a trio of two cellists and a grounding percussionist, who have appeared both on record and on tour with composer and prepared piano wizard Hauschka.
