Theaters, Music Venues, Museums Still Waiting on Federal Stimulus Money
The $16 billion program that Congress approved late last year to support theaters, music clubs, museums and other venues is having trouble getting off the ground.Â
Â
Applications for the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant - formerly known as Save Our Stages - were meant to be submitted beginning last Thursday, but unspecified website issues led the Small Business Administration to temporarily halt the process.
That's not the only problem. The agency has spent the last few days clarifying confusing rules. And its inspector general says it has "waste and fraud concerns."
A spokesman for Sen. Chuck Schumer, who helped shepherd the arts stimulus through Congress, said they're pushing for the SBA to "quickly fix the issues and relaunch the program.
