The Frick Collection

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

Dick Pyatt interviews Edgar Munhall, curator of the Frick Collection. They discuss the history of the building, the collection, exhibition practices and public programs. Pyatt asks about the possibility of showing contemporary works or if the collection will remain in line with the founder's collection interests. Munhall is open to the idea but hopes, "it will always remain where it is, not in the sense that it's a backward looking or non-progressing institution, but one whose qualities I think very highly of and which I think are crucial to our society at this moment and will be even more so in the next 20 or 50 or 100 years, that the isolation of objects of quality, exhibited with style and calm surroundings is something unique in the world and must at all cost be preserved."
