The Constant Invader, X-ray Surveys, Program No. 3

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

Henry Fonda narrates this episode of The Constant Invader. Set in the town of Bolton, civic leaders are urging the Mayor to help pay for an x-ray survey of all citizens over the age of 15. The hope is to stop the spread of Tuberculosis by those who do not know they are infectious. The local Tuberculosis Association has already secured half of the funds. However, the Mayor does not believe that there is a TB problem in Bolton and refuses to approve the remaining funds.

Reverend Maynard returns to his congregation and encourages his parishioners to write to the Mayor with their support of this program. Feeling fatigued after the sermon he makes an appointment to get his x-rays. Just as he feared, the reverend finds that he is inflicted with TB. It is not until the Mayor's secretary catches the disease that proves to be enough for him to approve the X-ray survey.
