Sufjan and Kanye at City Ballet, Brazilian Dance at BAM
New York City Ballet may still be operating without an official leader, but its programming is moving full speed ahead. On Thursday, January 31, the company will present the world premier of "Principia (New Peck 1)," a physics-inspired performance that marks the latest collaboration between choreographer Justin Peck and singer/songwriter/composer Sufjan Stevens.
This new work will also be presented with two other performances. First, a rarely seen work by William Forsythe, "Herman Schmerman." This piece has not been danced completely since 1994. And then finally, a work that premiered in the fall, Kyle Abraham's "The Runaway (New Abraham)," which features a mix of eclectic music ranging from Nico Muhly to Kanye West.
At BAM starting on January 31, the Brazilian contemporary dance troupe "Grupo Corpo" brings the US premier of "Bach & Gira." The two-part program will feature an electronic interpretation of Bach before turning to the music of São Paulo-based rock band Metá Metá.

Principia (New Peck 1) premieres January 31 at 7:30 at The David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center Plaza and can be seen at different performances through May 18. Herman Schmerman will be performed the same night (with performances through though April 28) as will The Runaway (New Abraham) (with additional presentations through March 2).
Bach & Gira runs from January 31 to February 2, 2019, at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn.
