The singer and songwriter Steve Earle has long been one of American music’s more colorful characters, bringing incisive lyrics to topics like politics, addiction, and relationships, especially failed ones. These are topics Earle knows a lot about, and while he’s often referred to as a folk musician, he draws heavily on country and rock music as well. Steve Earle is playing tonight with Mike Mattison (of Tedeschi Trucks Band) at City Winery.  

This song, "Fixin’ To Die," seems to contain echoes of the Led Zeppelin arrangement of "When The Levee Breaks."
