Speedy Ortiz, the arty post-punk band led by singer/guitarist Sadie Dupuis, has a new album coming in September, and they’ve just released a single called “Plus One.” The song stutters and judders along with highly syncopated drums, chiming electric guitars, and a curiously lilting melody – which might just serve as the first clue to the song’s true nature. Because despite all the sonic jump cuts and the kiss off lyrics, “Plus One” is a waltz.  A thrashing, electric waltz, but still…

Speedy Ortiz's forthcoming album is called Rabbit Rabbit, and that animal features prominently in the song’s not-entirely-serious video, which is part of our Weekly Music Roundup.
