Spanglish Fly via Flushing Town Hall at Home

The group called Spanglish Fly revisits the classic Latin dance music known as boogaloo, which grew up here in New York in the 60s. They shared a stage in 2018 with the Raya Brass Band, who play Balkan-style wedding music. It was part of the long-running but currently postponed Global Mashup series at Flushing Town Hall in Queens. Spanglish Fly's global mashup concert with the Raya Brass Band is being streamed on Tuesday, Sept. 15 by Flushing Town Hall. The bands played separately, and together.

For Sept. 1, "Egypt Meets Haiti," featuring Zikrayat, playing a wide repertory of Egyptian music ranging from exciting Bellydance numbers to virtuosic improvisations, and the Agoci Band combining hip-hop, roots, and calypso flavors with Haitian compas.

For Sept. 8, "Mexico Meets Guinea," with Banda de los Muertos, playing the boisterous Mexican brass/contemporary music known as “banda”, and Mandingo Ambassadors led by guitarist Mamady "Djelike" Kouyaté, a veteran of the golden age of Guinean dance bands.

For Sept. 15, "Balkans Meets El Barrio," when Raya Brass Band thrills audiences with intense, soul-shaking Balkan wedding music and Spanglish Fly returns with irresistible grooves that play 60’s soul inspired by Latin boogaloo.

For Sept. 22, "Texas Meets Peru":  Brian Clayton and The Green River Band, comprised of six of the finest country musicians, and Corina Bartra Afro Peruvian Band playing infectious Afro-Peruvian music.
