Sonny Singh is a Punjabi-American trumpet player and singer. He has been a central player in the New York based Punjabi dance band Red Baraat since 2008, and has incorporated a wide range of influences into his own songs. Some of them might be expected – jazz, rock, South Asian dance music; but others are more surprising, like Mexican boleros and mariachi, Jamaican reggae, and in this song, the Sufi devotional music of Pakistan known as qawwali. Sonny Singh plays May 8 at C’mon Everybody in Brooklyn.
