The Human Drama of Soccer

Midday on WNYC | Mar 16, 2018

Soccer is not only the world's most popular sport--it's also one of the most widely shared forms of global culture. Laurent Dubois, Professor of Romance Studies and History and Faculty Director of the Forum for Scholars & Publics at Duke University, delves into the sport in his new book The Language of the Game: How to Understand Soccer.  He explains soccer's history, tactics, and human drama. And he looks at how soccer's global reach makes it a potential theater for nationalism, international conflict, and human interconnectedness.

This segment is guest hosted by Jim O'Grady.
