A Young Reporter on the Scene at Meet the Breeds

Pier 92 was overflowing with dogs last weekend at the annual AKC Meet the Breeds event, where local breed clubs erect eye-catching displays to help introduce members of the general public to each breed's history and temperament. We sent 7-year-old reporter and canine enthusiast Kai Robin to investigate.

It's a great time to find out which type of dog is best for your household and life style, and lots of families turn out audition a canine companion. Kai doesn't have a dog at the moment, but he's read up on lots of them, and wanted to meet some of his favorites--boxers, bull dogs, pomeranians, and pugs among them.

WNYC producers Sarah Montague and Manoush Zomorodi (Kai's mom) made the rounds with him.

He also had some searching questions: why do Boxers get cancer? What about those Bull Dog teeth? Why are Chows' tongues blue?

Be alert for scams. WNYC never asks for nor accepts money for coverage or interviews. Anyone making such a request does not represent WNYC.
