Scalamandré Museum of Textiles

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

On this Museum Week feature, Franco Scalamandré talks about his textile museum which showcases historic fabric restoration projects completed by his design company. In highlighting specific projects at sites such as Colonial Williamsburg and the White House, he explains the process of recreating a textile with historical significance. The museum exhibitions, which travel to other museums across the country, feature side by side comparisons of original and recreated fabrics. According to Scalamandré, interest in restored historic spaces became popular with the American public after Jaqueline Kennedy gave a televised tour of restorations at the White House.
