Rutgers could strike any time — blowback over school president's claim it would be unlawful

WNYC News | Apr 3, 2023

Dozens of prominent academics are criticizing the president of Rutgers University after he called a looming strike by faculty unions "unlawful" in a university-wide email.

A letter addressed to Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway, signed by more than 40 scholars of labor, social justice and African American history, asks Holloway to rescind his administration’s “threat to use the power of injunction to punish, fine, and arrest workers taking job actions.”

The academic work stoppage would virtually shut down New Jersey's flagship public university across all its campuses in New Brunswick, Newark and Camden, affecting more than 67,000 students.
