Rep. Hakeem Jeffries to Back Iran Nuclear Deal

WNYC News | Sep 2, 2015

Representative Hakeem Jeffries, a Democrat from Brooklyn, is the latest member of the New York congressional delegation to voice his support for the Iran nuclear deal.

In a long statement posted to the website Medium, Jeffries says the agreement is "not perfect", but concludes that it is the "most preferable vehicle to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon."

Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Representative Jerrold Nadler are also backing the deal. Senator Chuck Schumer opposes it.

Congress is expected to vote on the agreement later in September.
