Radio Rookies Remembers One of Their Own: Keith Tingman

Former Radio Rookie Keith Tingman died suddenly of natural causes earlier this year. His birthday was April 25; he would've been 21. In honor of his memory, Radio Rookies reprised his story, originally broadcast in 2009.

Keith reported a story about a time when his parents were arrested in front of him and what happened while his father served time at Riker's. Keith's experience is hardly a singular one. A study funded by The Pew Charitable Trust in 2013 found that there were 2.7 million children in the United States with an incarcerated parent.

Keith was brave enough to share his experiences and to be a voice for millions of other kids. Since his story aired, it has been shared with groups serving young people with parents in jail and prison. That is just part of Keith's legacy in a life that ended far too soon.

"Although it may sound cliche, my Keith was the type of child, from birth to death, any mother would be proud to have raised," said his mom Amanda Britton.
