Protomartyr at Warsaw
Tickets: $20. Ages 16+. Show at 8 pm.

The band Protomartyr makes dark post-punk music, carrying on a tradition started almost 40 years ago by bands like Joy Division - except they’re from Detroit, not Manchester, England. Protomartyr’s music showcases Joe Casey’s often gloomy but often emotionally rich vocals, and the songs can go in unexpected directions: their widely hailed 2015 album The Agent Intellect, for example, takes its title from a central concept in medieval philosophy. Their latest release is called Consolation E.P., which they recorded in part with friend Kelley Deal, and with help from cellist Lori Goldston, violist Jocelyn Hach and bass clarinet from Evan Ziporyn. Protomartyr plays tonight at Warsaw in Brooklyn, with the band Rattle opening.
