#4478, New Releases, March 2021
It’s the most wonderful time of the month! Listen to some of the freshest new music that made its way into our earholes via the interwebs. There’s contemporary Arabic folk music which contains oceans of feeling by Iraqi-born singer and oud player Natik Awayez and new music players from Cairo, Egypt, amongst them Tamer Abu Ghazaleh (Buzuq) and Maryam Saleh (vocals), percussion arrangements by Khaled Yassine, and producer Maurice Louca. Listen also to the ‘desert blues’ of Les Filles de Illighadad from Niger, along with new music by pianist and composer Neil Cowley.
Hear field recording-based works built of old and new sounds by Greek-born, London-based Tasos Stamou and Toronto’s Art of Time Ensemble. Also, there’s music by Irish composer Linda Buckley for percussionist Joby Burgess, and more. -Caryn Havlik
