Police Academy Museum

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

Sergeant Irving Kramer joins an unidentified WNYC host to discuss the Police Academy Museum located in a new Police Academy building at 235 E. 20th st. He describes contraband objects on display such as weapons, counterfeiting equipment and narcotics used to train recruits and inform the public. The museum also offers guided tours of the academy that visit the gymnasium, laboratory, bomb squad, ballistics and the firearms range. The museum targets school-age children in "troubled precincts" to encourage cooperation with the police department and to inspire young people to become officers.
