The Cuban-born clarinetist Paquito D’Rivera has been a fixture on the American music scene for decades. His mentor was the great Dizzy Gillespie, and the two men shared a desire to bring together the worlds of Latin music and American jazz. All these years later, D’Rivera is still championing Latin jazz, both as a composer and a performer of other people’s works. On Thursday, Feb. 18, Paquito d’Rivera pays tribute to the great Latin jazz masters like Mario Bauza and Dizzy Gillespie in a virtual show from Dizzy’s club at Lincoln Center.
