From Mexico City’s bustling music scene comes the producer/percussionist/vocalist/DJ known as Pahua. That’s spelled P-a-h-u-a, and if it sounds like “power,” that might well be intentional. Pahua is the work of Paulina Sotomayor, who got her start in a cumbia-rock band with her brother, called Sotomayor. In her solo project, she blends folkloric rhythms with electronic beats and tops it all with empowering lyrics about women and nature. Pahua plays Jan. 10 at Public Records.
