Opera Essentia: "The Queen's Heart" at Green Oasis Community Garden

When you think of opera in New York, you probably think of the Met. And for good reason – the Metropolitan Opera is one of the biggest arts organizations in the country. But in its considerable shadow are a bunch of smaller opera companies, often presenting inventive, unexpected, and occasionally free performances. One such group is Opera Essentia. They’re small and nimble, and offer shows stripped to their essentials, sometimes in public spaces. This weekend they’ll do “The Queen’s Heart,” a one-hour pocket version of an opera by Handel called Radamisto.
Opera Essentia performs a free version of this work on May 23-24 at 6pm in the Green Oasis Community Garden on the Lower East Side.
