One Man’s Meat
Host Dean Olsher puts the Chowhound to the test with a long-distance food adventure.
Reporter Sean Collins takes us to a national mascot conference.
We visit Manhattan's noisy Meatpacking District, and the peaceful Cloisters overlooking the Hudson River.
And we sit in on a session with jazz greats Don Byron and Jason Moran.
Mascot Time
Being an NBA mascot requires a lot more than a furry costume (though that does come in handy). Reporter Sean Collins attends the annual NBA Mascots Conference in Las Vegas to find out more about this unusual line of work. Produced by Julie Subrin.
Giant Steps
Master collaborators Don Byron (clarinet/tenor saxophone) and Jason Moran (piano) take apart jazz standards and then put them back together again. Host Dean Olsher sits in on one of their sessions. Produced by Matt Lieber.
Chowhounding in Cincinnati
Can the Chowhound sniff out the perfect lunch from afar? He's never been to Cincinnati, but that doesn't mean he won't take the call when host Dean Olsher phones from a street corner there to say, "What should I eat? I'm starving!"
Life in the Meatpacking District
Marla Mitchnick grew up in Manhattan's Meatpacking District, back when it was nothing but butchers and meat markets. Since then much of the meatpacking industry has migrated to other parts of the city, making way for fancy restaurants with fancy patrons. Miriama Young visits with Marla and others to create this audio portrait of a changing neighborhood. The piece is adapted from Young's longer audio documentary, "The Prime Cut." Produced by Michael Kavanagh.
Crushes
Novelist Meg Wolitzer imagines what might have been had her teenage crushes been reciprocated. Would Donnie Osmond roll up his rhinestone studded sleeves when the baby's diapers needed changing? Along for the ride back in time are actors Mary Testa and Charlie Schroeder. Produced by Curtis Fox.
More Jazz
Another song from jazz collaborators Don Byron and Jason Moran.
