Born in the Turkish city of Adana to a musical family, Omar Faruk Tekbilek is a brilliant interpreter of Sufi, folk, and contemporary music of the Middle East and Mediterranean. The master musician plays traditional flutes, lutes, and drums, and has been a major force in world music since the 1970s. Omar Faruk Tekbilek leads a fine ensemble of near eastern musicians at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall tomorrow night, with special guests Brian Keane on guitar and Ara Dinkjian playing the oud.
