Ojai On The Air 2022

New Sounds | Oct 2, 2022

This week of Oct. 3, New Sounds and the long-running, adventurous Ojai Music Festival present exclusive performances in an ongoing collaboration called Ojai On the Air.

"For seven decades, the Ojai Music Festival has been a laboratory for the special chemistry that results from combining insatiable curiosity with unbounded creativity. The formula is simple: Each year a [different] music director is given the freedom and resources to imagine four days of musical brainstorming."  - Ojai Festival

In 2022, it was the American Modern Opera Company (AMOC), who served as Music Director for the Festival. AMOC programmed multimedia works with drama and movement, pushing boundaries and stretching limits, with music by the late singer, pianist, composer, and "misfit in classical music" Julius Eastman (NPR Music), featuring bass-baritone Davóne Tines; music by L.A.-based baroque violinist and composer Andrew McIntosh (of new music band Wild Up); music inspired by Eastern mysticism by the late German composer, pianist Hans Otte, as performed by pianist Conor Hanick; music by J.S. Bach and violinist/songwriter Andrew Bird. Hear this music along with artist interviews recorded at the 2022 Ojai Music Festival, this week on New Sounds.
