O’Farrill Family Band – "Pura Emocion" (Soundcheck Podcast)

As the Grammy-winning leader of the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra here in New York, pianist Arturo O’Farrill has continued and extended the legacy of his father, Chico O’Farrill, one of the handful of musicians who founded the style known as Latin Jazz in the mid-20th century. And Arturo’s sons, drummer Zack and trumpeter Adam, are now in-demand players on the city’s jazz scene. Occasionally, their busy schedules align and they perform as the O’Farrill Family Band. They played a live set for us recently in the studio, including a tune written by Chico O’Farrill, which is part of the latest episode of the Soundcheck Podcast.
