NYU Returns to Table for Long Island College Hospital

WNYC News | Sep 29, 2014

NYU Langone Medical Center has re-entered negotiations to operate part of Long Island College Hospital, the shuttered facility known as LICH in the Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn.

Facing court action, NYU had withdrawn from a deal to redevelop LICH earlier this month. Now, Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Johnny Lee Baynes has ruled in NYU's favor, and the deal to turn LICH into luxury housing and a standalone emergency room appears to be back on track.

The New York State Nurses Association had tried to block the sale of LICH, saying NYU violated a court agreement failing to hire unionized nurses. But Judge Baynes ruled that the union had no standing to sue.

A spokesperson said the union is disappointed and is reviewing its options.
