NYC Principals Call for Delay to In-Person Learning

WNYC News | Aug 14, 2020

Principals are on the front lines of the effort to reopen New York City's public schools. It’s up to them to figure out how to make the hybrid-learning plan work while protecting students and teachers from another spike in a pandemic that ravaged communities in the winter and spring. But a growing chorus of principals say schools won't be ready next month when students are scheduled to start returning. They say they need more clarity on the number of students and staff planning to come into buildings this fall, and more protective equipment to keep buildings safe. The union that represents principals — the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators (CSA) — is calling on the New York City Department of Education to start school remote-only on September 10th, phasing students back into the buildings weeks later.
