New York legislators are proposing a statewide "purple alert" for missing domestic violence victims

WNYC News | Oct 30, 2023

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and can be an opportunity to “start the conversation” with family and friends.

Earlier this month, the New York City Council passed a resolution earlier this month calling on the state legislature to create a “purple alert system” for people missing due to domestic violence. It would be similar to the “AMBER Alert" used to track missing or abducted children.

WNYC's Sean Carlson talked with city councilmember Amanda Farias, the lead sponsor of the resolution, and state Assemblyman Khaleel Anderson, who sponsored the purple alert bill last year. It passed the state Senate but not the Assembly.
