Pedestrian Tunnel Between PATH and Fulton Center Hub Set to Open
New Jersey commuters taking the PATH train are getting a new link to the New York City subway.
The MTA says that a new pedestrian tunnel connecting the World Trade Center transportation hub to the nearby Fulton Center subway station is set to open at 5 P.M. Thursday afternoon.
The tunnel, known as the Dey Street Concourse, will let commuters transfer between subway and PATH stations without going above ground.
Previously, straphangers hoping to switch between rail lines had to exit the stations and walk several blocks in the heavily-trafficked streets surrounding the World Trade Center site. The new tunnel will allow people to transfer trains without having to keep an eye out for traffic and construction vehicles traveling on the neighborhood's narrow streets.
Currently, the concourse connects the PATH train with the A, C, J, Z, R, 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains at Fulton Center. A future link planned for 2018 will also provide connections to the E and 1 lines.
