#3563: New Sounds Live: The Hilliard Ensemble Farewell Tour
From the New Sounds Live concert series, recorded live at the Temple of Dendur in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, listen to the all-male band of British a cappella singers, The Hilliard Ensemble. Founded in 1974 and named after the British miniaturist painter Nicholas Hilliard, this group has cut a distinct path in the fields of both old and new music. This concert was also a stop on their farewell tour, as the group will be disbanding in 2014, after 40 years together, performing music that spans the past millennium.
The Hilliards may have come together initially to sing medieval and renaissance music, but works by living composers have featured in their programs since the start. Hear their concert performances of music by Arvo Pärt, Alexander Raskatov, and others, along with an exclusive WNYC appearance from back in 1991.
Listen to the entire concert from January 22, 2014 at Q2 Music.
