A mixed economy - one in which government and business are partners as well as competitors - has allowed the U.S. to prosper, according to Jacob Hacker, the Stanley B. Resor Professor of Political Science at Yale University, and Paul Pierson, Professor of Political Science and holder of the Avice Saint Chair of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley.  In American Amnesia: How the War on Government Led Us to Forget What Made America Prosper they explain why public investment in education, health and economic security are crucial to growth and argue that anti-government ideology threatens economic prosperity.
