The Afro-Swedish singer, rapper, and songwriter Neneh Cherry burst on the scene in 1989 with her hit song "Buffalo Stance", but she became disillusioned with the music business and spent much of the early part of this century working on side projects, like a cooking show and DJing. She's looked to jazz in her project with The Thing, called The Cherry Thing (2012), and since released a couple of strong albums that look at things like family, death, and identity politics like her 2014 return, called Blank Project and 2018's Broken Politics, both produced by Four Tet. Neneh Cherry plays Tuesday night, May 14, at Elsewhere.
