MTA Says After First Week of Shutdowns Train are Gleaming

It’s been over a week since the MTA began suspending overnight service to remove the homeless population and clean trains and stations, and the chairman of the MTA Pat Foye says the shutdowns have gone “flawlessly.”

Once the homeless population is removed by police, workers have been able to clean the trains twice a day. 

“Literally every time I’m on a train I’m like ‘this thing shines like the top of the Chrysler Building. I think it’s the cleanest the system has ever been and I think people absolutely noticed it,” Interim President of New York City Transit Sarah Feinberg says.

She says the cleaning will continue as long as there’s a pandemic.

The MTA is asking the federal government for $8 billion to cover expenses. So far, half of that has been approved.
